Swimming pond and natural swimming pool USA

Butz & Klug Architects, Boston, USA

Butz and Klug Architects contacted us to participate in their project in Gloucester, near Boston, MA. The swimming pond is located in close proximity to a studio with an 180 degree view of the Atlantic and the coasts of Maine and New Hampshire.

The location of the swimming pond is a flat area with a light level drop towards the sea which has been used to full advantage in the design.

Works were carried out at the same on the main house, studio, swimming pond and landscaping.

A concrete structure provides the main shell for the pond including a series of dividing walls which create divisions in the regeneration zone and are also used as footings for the huge stepping stone slabs.

Bottom to floor windows connect the inside of the studio with the pond and surrounding landscape.

Rectangular stepping stones connect the studio to the main lawn and house.

Mass planting and the use of rough cut local stone give a rustic aspect to the otherwise sophisticated design.

The infinity edge provides a wonderful view over the Atlantic.
