This project is an unplanted natural pool, using biological filter equipment in a nearby room or hut rather than planted filtration beds as in our usual swimming ponds. The basic principle of natural filtration is the same as with our planted swimming ponds in that the nutrient level is kept very low. Again we use absolutely no chemicals or any other processes which harm living cells (such as UV).
We built this pool from scratch but we can also install this equipment to convert existing conventional pools to natural pools without chemicals. We designed and installed this technology in conjunction with our technical partners Polyplan.
This pool is heated using a simple air source heat pump, and heat is also retained by the automatic pool cover. The pool has reached 32 deg C while maintaining perfect clarity, although we would not usually recommend heating above 28 deg C.
The images above where the water looks lighter were taken 18 months after installation. There has been absolutely no blanket weed or loss of clarity throughout this period, however you can see there is some limescale build-up on the liner (which we can remove).
The pool temperature, water level, water clarity, pump running time, as well as other variables, can also be monitored and programmed (as appropriate) remotely.
